Today, while Joy was “helping” me put away clean laundry, I was trying to teach her the words for different items of clothing. Here, you see she is wearing a hat and scarf, because I was trying to help her understand how the different items were worn differently. Since the nose incident the other day, I have ramped up my language efforts with her. I’ve always talked and read to her a lot, but now I am doing even more describing and naming of everyday objects. It’s so exciting to think that she really is going to learn how to talk!!! I’ve gotten pretty used to the way things are, that I wasn’t really realizing I was about to hit a big new stage!

We had fun today. Isn’t she cute?

I think it’s possible that Joy might know the word “nose!” I HAVE been working on teaching it to her, along with many other words from her books. Today, Brian told Joy, “Bite your mama’s nose!” at which point, she turned to me, focused her eyes on my nose, and then slowly moved forward to bite it. I didn’t let her bite it, because I don’t like encouraging her to bite any more than I like being bitten, which kind of made her upset. She tried a second time, even. I feel like maybe I’m a wee bit loony thinking she could understand a whole sentence like that, but I guess it wouldn’t be that surprising to know “bite” and “mama” and “nose.”

If she really did understand what he said, how exciting would that be? Now, I just need to teach her the word “touch.” Then, if I say “touch mama’s nose” and she does it, I can really be excited!!!

8 seconds is a big deal in bull-riding time, right? Well, I think it’s also a big deal in baby time! Today, Joy stood independently (without hanging onto anything) for 8 seconds! Wow! She’s been practicing, and it’s really starting to show! Go, Joy!

Care to place a guess on when Joy’s first step (without help) will be? Maybe there will be a prize for who guesses closest!

Joy waved today!

I’ve been trying to teach her to do it for a month or two now, and today she did it! In the last week or so, she’s sort of done a half-wave where she lifts her arm up then drops it quickly, but today, she did it for real, a back and forth open-handed movement! Woohoo! She did it for a friend, Laura, first, and then she did it to me a little later, and this evening she waved at a store clerk. How cute!

So, we’ve been enjoying Brian’s company so much, and living in the moment, that we’ve forgotten to be commemorating the visit with pictures. He’s also really busy working, which is no fun! : ( Darn work trips with all their stupid working!

Today, we will not see Brian at all, but tomorrow we will, and one day again next week. I’ll make sure to get some good pics for ya!

Joy just woke up unexpectedly, and doesn’t seem to want to go back to sleep just yet. This is very, very unusual behavior for her! As I type, she’s crawling around the room, playing.

I just checked Brian’s flight info. If I understand this correctly (and that’s no guarantee, as all this time zone stuff is so confusing), his flight was scheduled to leave 45 minutes ago, but was delayed a half an hour. The website doesn’t say whether or not for sure his plane is in the air yet, but if it took off at the time the website was anticipating (Lufthansa), then he may have been hitting the air just as Joy woke up. Wouldn’t that be crazy!?

Today, Grandma and Grandpa Paris came over and watched Joy while I did some stuff around the house. It seems like they had a good time!
